Learning How to Do a Blog is Pretty Easy

To keep it simple, choose a "user friendly" blogging software and then follow my 5 easy steps.

Once you learn the basics, you can experiment with your blog to improve it.

You can ping it to the search engines, learn different ways to SEO it, add videos, pictures, Google ads, and more.

But to start, let's just get your pinky toe wet.

Later, you can go as far as you want.

You'll get more creative once you learn a few tricks and techniques.

Create a Blog Account

First Step,

Go to...

http://blogger.com/start
(You'll see a blue and orange page.)

I find blogger the easiest and most user friendly for the new person just getting to know how to write a blog.

You can advance to WordPress blogging if you want to (when you're a little more experienced.)

On the top right of the page, sign in with your google account email if you have one.

If you don't have a Google account, click "Create a Blog" (BIG orange button.)

Fill out the form and click I accept the Terms of Service at the bottom of the page.

Click continue.

Name Your Blog

Second Step,

You should now see

Name your blog...

Choose a name and put it in the Title section.
(with no spaces) or... you can put dashes in it.

Check the availability. If your name is taken, keep trying until you get one that's available.

Whatever you name your blog will be permanent, so... think a little about it before you choose the name.

Click continue.

Template

Third Step,

Picking a template...

Choose the 7th template (for the time being) by clicking in the small little circle.

It's the brown and beige one called "scribe" by Todd Dominey. (You can always change the template later to something you like better.)

I use the scribe template for all my Christian blogging.

Close my blog.

Click continue to keep working on your own blog.

You'll now see a notice that your blog has been created.

Start Blogging

Fourth Step,

Click start blogging...

Now you'll see a page where you can enter your first blog post.

In the title box, type in the name of your first post.

Just write anything for now.

You can delete it or edit it later. (For now we are just practicing so do worry too much about what you type.)

Now... in the larger box below the title, type in your story that relates to the title.

In the labels for this post box (on the bottom right), type in keywords as they relate to your post.

For example, if you wrote about dogs, you might type in poodles, small dogs, house dog, etc.

The keywords help people find your posts.

Publish Your Blog

Fifth Step,

Click publish post...

Click view post to see what your article post looks like.

Voila! You have created your first blog and your first post.

Easy right?

Learning how to do a blog was pretty simple after all.

Customize Your Blog

Additional steps beyond the basics

Click on Customize... at the top right to get started.

Now you can take your time customizing (by adding videos, pics, and google ads.) You can fix it up to your liking over time.

Don't feel intimidated by all the different options on how to do a more attractive blog.

You can't hurt anything by experimenting. If worse comes to worse, you can always delete your entire blog but that usuallyisn't necessary.

P.S. Blogging has it's place, but I highly recommend you read this interesting article about Blog or Build a Website before you spend too much time blogging.
