Do You Have Clarity and Commitment?

by Mary Bachert

Candle Business

Candle Business

After being involved with my candle business for 4 1/2 years, there were many times that I became discouraged as it seemed nothing was working.

Now, I realize that the majority of it was that I was not focused on what I was doing!

After reading an email from Charles Stanley talking about our Christian walk, he suggested two things we need in our life; clarity and commitment.

The more I thought about this, the more I realized that this didn’t just apply to my spiritual life, but to all areas of my life.

My home based business was one of them. So I decided to start putting them into practice and am truly amazed at how the LORD is blessing in all areas of my life. For without HIM, I can do nothing!

Clarity... do you have a very clear picture in your mind "Why" you are doing this business?

  • Does a picture come into your mind of what things look like now?

  • Can you picture what you need to change, so it doesn't look like that anymore?

  • What do you want out of your business?

  • What do you want your personal life to look like?

  • Do you have the picture in your mind of what things will look like when you are successful?

Remember if you believe you can succeed, you will!

Commitment... Are you truly committed to working your business? Or are you doing the things that I was, like cleaning your office, re-arranging it, organizing things, sharpening your pencils, copying things off the computer so that you have mounds of paper work to try and file, etc.?

Is that really working your business and being committed to helping others succeed? In my case it wasn’t! It was just treating my business as a hobby and with it, came a “hobby income.”

I needed to put a certain amount of real working hours into my home-based business and to treat it as a business.

You too, are going to have to take advantage of the free training, conference calls or webinars to help you grow your business. You are going to have to make those cold or warm calls; follow up with those leads; talk to others about your products and business and to do the things that you don’t want to do because of fear and having to step out of your comfort zone!

Above all, you are going to need to build a relationship with those you have talked with, and those who have joined your business, so that you will have the joy of watching them grow and becoming successful also.

So now after thinking on clarity and commitment I have asked myself, and I urge you to do the same as you are go about your duties, “Is what I am doing now helping me to bring in the income I need to succeed in this business?"

Only you will know the answer to that! If it is, that is great and the results will show! If not then you need to change what you are doing.

Remember... one of the greatest things of having your own business is that you can lifestyle it around everything you do.

"Jesus, please show me how to help others succeed!"

In Response to Clarity and Commitment
by: Linda Pepin

Mary,

Thank you for your contribution.

I heartily agree with your advice about clarity and focus.

The Bible says in James 1:8, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

I think one of the reasons Christians fail in business is because their focus is on making money and not on Jesus Christ, helping others, and furthering God's Kingdom.

The devil wants us focused on accumulating worldly possessions, position, fame, self importance, and big bank accounts instead of using our business income to further the gospel or to support missionaries, or caring for the poor and needy.

Satan tries to make us believe that it's wrong or not God's will for us to have money. So we swallow that belief and poke around doing nothing productive to build our business.

We shuffle papers on our desk, hesitate to make phone calls, spend more time on making our "to list" than actually performing the "to do's." We make all kinds of excuses for not moving forward and justify our lack of discipline and no income as "spirituality."

If we can get a clear picture of what God wants us to do and how He will use us as we build our business than we have a fighting chance of defeating the devil's negative and destructive thoughts he places in our minds.

The devil wants us mixed up in our thinking. He wants us confused about what direction to take our business in. He doesn't want us seeking God's will, being productive, or focused.

I am not a "prosperity" teacher by any means but I do believe in being diligent in business. Our employer wouldn't keep us long if we didn't produce results for him would he? Well it's not any different working for the King of Kings. If we dilly dally around with our business and don't take it as a serious work for the Lord, we won't see lives changed nor a pay cheque at the end of the week.

Mary...your advice is correct when you say we need to be clear and focused on our goals. The Bible clearly teaches us to do just that in Matthew 6:24,

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

And James 4:8 says, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."

I think we as Christian business men and women ought to each ask ourselves, "Do I rest on Jesus Christ crucified and obey his directives for my business step by step, or is my heart so filled with the things of this world that I'm immobilized; or so driven by material gain that I leave God out?

I believe that once we have our thinking and heart right about God's will for us in
our business matters, we won't have the problem of uncertainty and lack of purpose. We will have the clarity and thus the power to accomplish what we need to do.
