To make my own website, have a webmaster build a website for me, use a replicated website, or blog? These are all questions you'll need to ask yourself before starting your own business or taking it to the next level of growth.

Whether you are just starting a home based business or have been operating a business for several years (online or offline), one thing is certain, you will eventually need to own your own site.

No website at all, or cookie cutter replicated websites, won't cut it for long. Not if you want your business to be a successful income producing profession, not a hobby.

Replicated Websites

My husband and I are affiliates of several online business opportunities. Most of the companies provide us with a replicated website to promote their products or business opportunity. These replicated websites look attractive. Our "Healthy" Coffee website is an example ... but some are too flashy and "busy" looking. They might be eye catching but there are several problems with replicated sites.

1. They sometimes appear to be nothing more than a hyped up sales page with animated banners and loud music which could instantly turn a customer off perhaps never to return.

2. They do not give the customer what they are actually looking for in the search engines which is quality content/information.

3. Most of the replicated sites do not have a form on them to capture a visitor's contact information.

4. Not having control of a replicated website means you cannot offer extra goodies to a customer such as home business E-books, home business services, home business affiliate training, or a home business ezine (directly from your website).

Replicated websites are better than not having a website at all however. They have their place. We still use them where appropriate. For example, if I we have already done some pre-selling to a potential customer and he is ready to buy, it makes sense to direct him to our replicated site.

However, relying solely on a replicated website to promote your business will not allow for relationship building and pre-selling; Two very important ingredients in the success of your home business. There will come a time when you will realize the profitability and necessity to build a website yourself. This is especially true if you own your own home based business whether that be an on-line or a traditional off-line small business.

Quality Website Content

If you are currently shopping for the services of a professional webmaster or are contemplating building your own Christian small business website, you need to know what works. Where an off-line business focuses on location, location, location, your online business website needs to focus on information, information, information.

If you build a website yourself, it should be chock bang full of quality content with loads of information that is able to answer your visitor's questions, meet a need, or give direction to. This is the information age.

Free Websites

Although there a many free website building packages on the internet that you can try your hand at, you won't get the technical support or quality results that your home business requires to be successful. The capabilities of these free websites are very limited.

Professional Webmaster

There are scores of professional webmasters eager to build a website for you if you do not have the time or inclination to do it yourself. Some are reasonably priced, some are quite hefty. Decide what is best for you according to your budget and their quality of service. But be sure they are familiar with what works and what does not.

Many of these "pros" just love the latest bells and whistles and will love to have a go at implementing them on your home business website. The problem is...a lot of them do not have a clue how to provide quality relevant information for your customers and they do not know the "heart" of your small business nor do some of them really care.

You Know Your Business Best

You are the one who knows your customers, products, and home business the most. You are the best candidate to build a website yourself. If you are like most people who don't know the difference between HTML and meta tags, we recommend you learn how to make a website using a reputable and proven website builder that teaches you step by step. It is not as hard, complicated, or expensive as you might expect. I did not know anything about making a website when I started creating Christian-home-business-help.com.

Our Christian Website

Our Christian home business website that you are visiting today is a product of a website builder program called Site Build It. We love SBI. Until just a year ago, we were relying solely on replicated sites to build our online businesses. If you're interested in SBI, you can get your questions answered here.

Since creating our own website, we now have complete control over what goes on our pages. This is very liberating for us. As Christian entrepreneurs we want to provide the information that our customers are looking for. We want control over what content and graphics goes on our website. We wanted to build an income generating website that reflected our personality, values, experiences, and knowledge. We were able to do that with Site Build It.

It is also extremely important that we also have the freedom to talk about God on our site. To build a website ourself was the solution for us. Maybe it is the answer for you as well. If so, consider Site Build It. Compare feature-by-feature and then dollar-for-dollar when you are ready to make a website for your home based business.
