Are You a Super Christian?

by Roger Pepin
(Niagara Falls, Canada)

Just by giving you the title, I am sure I lost a bunch of you. Don’t turn me off. You will be surprised as to what you will discover about yourself. Some people think, “well this is all well and good for the preacher but not for me”.

Let me tell you… preachers are men just as you. It is sad when you see preachers rant and rave, pound the pulpit, get mad at their people, and talk to them like they are nothing more than dirt. None of us have the scars in our hands to prove we are superior to you. The Bible speaks just as much to me as it speaks to you. Every single person in the world struggles with sin. I have yet to meet the perfect person.

We are not perfect but if Christ is your Saviour He is working in you if let Him. Throughout the ages, God took ordinary people and did extra ordinary work through them. People have all kinds of excuses not to serve God. The most common is, “I am not gifted”. What does that mean? Are you dead? Every person has talent. Mine are not yours and yours are not mine. But you have some. Use them and I will use mine. That is what God expects of us. I can’t play the piano and I don’t have a beautiful voice but I like hearing you so keep on singing.

The trick is to use what you have. Don’t let others intimidate you because they seem to be more gifted than you. God gave you talents because He knew you could serve Him with that. When David said that Goliath was defying the armies of the living God he said, “I will take care of him.” He said, “Is there not a cause?” Sure there was but the trained soldiers of Israel were cowards even though they were more talented than David.

Even King Saul said in verse 33, “And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” We can’t blame Saul because it was the truth but sometimes you have to overlook the facts. Is there not a cause? Yes there is. Maybe the people who seem to have more qualifications than you are not willing to take up that cause. You be a David. Use the talent that God gave you and get the job done.

When Saul realized that David was determined he wanted to help him. Verse 38 says, “And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail”. Verse 39, “And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. Verse 40, “And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.”

Picture the size of Goliath seeing this little boy coming at him with nothing to protect himself but a sling. You fathers, just imagine your 2 year old son coming at you with his fists closed ready to take you on. How would you react? Would you be scared or think it was funny? Goliath was fearless but so was David. He had a cause. In verse 49 we read, “And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth”.

David did not let anyone around him influence him, not his brothers, Saul, or Goliath. David knew his own talent and used what God gave him. Using the armour and sword that Saul provided would have been foolish. Why do we look at what others have wishing we could use what they have instead of using what we already have? So are you a super Christian? You can be if you use what He has given you. Once you start using your talents God will multiply them but don’t wait ‘till He gives you more before getting started. You have to be in motion before He will use you.

In Genesis 24:27 we find, “I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.” He was in motion already doing what he could. Stop all your excuses. Start using what you have. God will use you in a great and mighty way. You can make your life count for Christ regardless of what others think or say.

I could give you many examples of people in the bible that did not possess much but accomplished great things. Look around you. The greatest of all people are people that use their God given talents then He multiplies them. He will multiply yours if you get in motion. Use those few stones at your disposal; the tools provided by God.

Look around you. You will soon realize that few people are doing God’s work. Even Jesus said in Luke 10:2, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest”. I am praying for you to become that labourer. Are you willing to step up and use your talents to make a difference for the kingdom of God? You can be that super Christian that you never thought you could be if you try.
