Christian Motivation and Knowing God's Will

Christian motivation is created God's way, if...
we are willing to be changed by Him. It is not by self determined objectives or positive thinking.

Know Your Why

Christian motivation is a whole different ball game than the world's idea of doing what you want with drive and determination. Christians should desire to please the Lord and not themselves or others.

Christians should not be crowd pleasers, working for self glory, fame, applause, or fortune. "Know your why" for building your home based business and let God's Word motivate you and lift you higher as you submit to God in obedience to Christ.

God's Word

Christian motivation springs forth from knowing God's will in accordance with what the Word of God says in the Bible.

The Bible says, in...

Col. 3:17, "And whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."

Ephesians 6:6 says our motives should be to serve, "Not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;"

Col. 3:23 says, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"

God First

Problems arise when we try to do what other people are doing; Working for a bigger home, a nicer car, or a fat bank account. Contentment and fulfillment will never come when you work for material gain.

You will eventually lose the desire to work for them because you know deep down in your heart that there are nobler goals to achieve. There are souls to save, the hungry to feed, the hurting to be comforted. God really does have a plan for you. Seek His will "daily." Each time you surrender to His leading today, you'll be one step closer to what he'll ask of you tomorrow.

So you see, we can't put the cart before the horse. We can't just decide we're going to do something and use positive thinking to get us there. We have to yield to the Holy Spirit and let God determine our motives and objectives step by step as we seek His direction by reading the Bible. God wants us to work in the Holy Spirit's power and not our own flesh to accomplish what He reveals to us through scripture. That's how we refresh our spirit and find the will to take action and keep going.

The Potter's Wheel

He needs to work on us a bit from time to time. Being on the Potter's wheel isn't much fun though. We want to get off and get on with the business at hand and do our own thing. We want to hurry up and accomplish things.

But he pokes us and turns us and shapes us. It's not easy to sit still while he does his work on us. After he is finished however, we will be of use to Him. We can serve others better and for the right reasons.

Once we know what God wants and we have the "right" motives, we can use other resources in addition to the Bible to help us be more productive with our time, help us with Christian goal setting, and develop our Christian character.
